One of my favorite things to do while I am in the euphoric company of nature recharging my batteries is to earth. I walk around barefoot nearly every day and connect to the grass, the roots and the dirt. Would you belief there is a science to the health benefits of a practice called Earthing. What is earthing you ask? Simply put it is the connection of the bare foot or skin coming in contact with the ground. This is as real as understanding everything is made of atoms. Everything has a negative, positive, natural or negative charge.
Reconnection with the Earth's electrons has been found to promote intriguing physiological changes and subjective reports of well-being (Chevalier et al, 2018) Mounting evidence suggests that the Earth's negative potential can create a stable internal bioelectrical environment for the normal functioning of all body systems. Including reducing inflammation, stress, pain, neutralize free radicals, (molecules that damage all the body’s cells) and improving sleep to name a few.
A pilot study on the electrodynamics of red blood cells (zeta potential) has revealed that earthing significantly reduces blood viscosity, an important but neglected parameter in cardiovascular diseases and diabetes (Chevalier et al, 2010) Cardiovascular benefits can be reaped with incorporating earthing as a way to thing the blood without medications when done properly.
Though summer time is coming to a close, walking barefoot on cold floor is beneficial as well. One of my favorite things to do is walk around for a few minutes as must as tolerable on the grass just to let my body exchange the electrons to realign my biochemistry after a long day of work or the stress of running errands. Honestly I am barefoot most every day and ruin all my socks walking around outside.
In the hustle of modern society the disconnect with our connection to nature has dire consequences. There are many studies done on the health benefits of eathing and several books, one of which I recommend reading if you find yourself with any of the adverse health issue mentioned in the article.
