After eight years in the medical field as a surgical tech, I have seen every part of the body, inside and out. I have seen health and dis*ease manifest in the body, the body’s sole function is to keep you alive as long as it can. That being said, through my journey back to health with the research and readings over the years. First and foremost – all health is internal, directly related to what you eat. Genetics loads the gun, environment pulls the trigger. This is not debatable. Secondly, the body is a marvelous biological machine. It imprints and stores information daily, including emotions, when not addressed can cause physical illness.
Yes, you read that correctly, the body experiences emotions chemically via hormones and those chemical reactions get stored in the bodies tissues. “It’s amazing to think of our glands, organs, tissues and cells as storage places for emotion and memory, yet this was given explanation through the scientific research of Dr. Candace Pert, a neuropharmacologist” Cellular processes in the body are passive and mechanical, simply doing what they are directed to do. So the cells and atoms follow direction of the brain and nervous system, then follows the laws of biochemistry, which follows the rules of chemistry which obey the laws of physics…amazing right. Is your mind blown yet?
How about these apples, there is a network of peptides that extends beyond the brain to the organs, tissue, skin, muscle and endocrine glands. All these systems have peptide receptors in then and can access and STORE emotional information, meaning emotional memory is stored in many paces IN THE BODY, not just the brain (Mckenna, 2003) so these unresolved emotions are dispersed into your body that then find an organ or muscle group or piece of skin and begin to fester and manifest in harmful ways to degrade the body from the inside out.
It is essential in this day in age, to make time for yourself in practicing self-care, by actively processing experiences in positive ways. To go to the gym or yoga class and work through the emotions you have. Make peace with them and let them go. Distracting and suppression only keeps these emotions embedded in the body and they manifest in harmful ways. Taking time for you, even once a week is vital to maintain your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health!
